ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) was held on August 2nd, 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The meeting was led by the Chair of ADSOM, Secretary General of Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, Air Marshal Donny Ermawan T., and was attended by all 10 ASEAN Member States as well as the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting was a momentous occasion that brought together senior officials from ASEAN to endorse the existing cooperation initiatives that have been agreed upon at the ADSOM WG meetings. The initiatives are designed to enhance ASEAN Member States’ collective efforts as well as to promote greater cooperation and coordination among the defence establishments.

Reports and progress of several programs were reviewed in ADSOM, as well as ADMM initiatives and preparation for the next ADMM and ADMM-Plus that are scheduled in November 2023. As Chair, Indonesia is optimistic that ASEAN Member States can put aside their differences while continuing to maintain their respective national interest by working together and putting ASEAN unity as their foremost priority.
