The first Ad Hoc ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) Plus WG was held virtually on May 10th, 2023 via teleconference. The meeting was led by Chair of ADSOM-Plus WG, Director of Defence International Cooperation, BG Steverly C. Parengkuan, and was attended virtually by all 10 ASEAN Member States and 8 Plus countries, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia, and USA, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting discussed the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups (EWGs) 2024-2027 Cycle, followed by discussion on the Draft Joint Statement by the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Plus on Women, Peace and Security. The ADSOM-Plus WG Chair stated that there will always be a common understanding between ASEAN and Plus countries, upon which state members build their commitment to safeguard the maintenance of peace, prosperity and security. Chair is also optimistic that ASEAN and Plus countries will continue to cooperate based on openness, mutual respect and a win-win solution.
